Multi-Strand Patterns
Working with multiple strands of ITO yarn allows you to combine colors in unique ways and create a fabric from different fibers that is perfectly tailored to each specific design.
One Design, Two Different Versions
The BREATH Blouse is a light and airy top with flowing trumpet sleeves and elegant lace details. The pattern includes two yarn combinations. A warmer, soft version made with ITO Shimo and ITO Sensai, and a delicate version made with ITO Kinu and ITO Sensai.

The BREATH Blouse is a light, ethereal top featuring softly flowing trumpet sleeves and a modern, relaxed silhouette. Eight decorative lace axes radiate from the neckline all the way down to the hem, creating a captivating visual line against the smooth stockinette fabric. These lace axes serve both a aesthetic and structural purpose, as all increases are seamlessly integrated directly into the motifs.
Worked entirely in the round from the top down without any seams, the garment uses short rows to shape the neckline and back for an optimal, ergonomic fit. All trims are finished with elegant twisted ribbing. Designed with a subtle cropped fit, both the body and sleeve lengths can be easily customized to your personal preference as you knit.

ITO Shimo and ITO Sensai blend wool, silk, and mohair to create a cozy, warm knit that remains breathable thanks to its natural fibers.
ITO Sensai, knitted together with ITO Rakuda, brings wool and camel hair into play. ITO Urugami, made of wool and paper, combined with ITO Kosho, made of wool and cashmere, unite exquisite Japanese craftsmanship into an exciting fabric.

The two yarns are worked alternately to create a striped pattern. Since ITO Shio is a very fine wool yarn, this creates the unique effect of almost transparent stripes.
This way, different yarn weights can be intentionally used in multi-strand knitting to create accents. If you want to knit a striped T-shirt, this is a great way to experiment.

The ITO Concept: The Interaction of Different Fibers
What makes ITO's designs special is the interplay of textures, colors, and patterns. Many of our patterns are based on a very specific technique: knitting with multiple strands at the same time. When you try one of our multi-strand knitting patterns, you'll quickly realize that it opens up a whole new world of possibilities.
By deliberately combining different qualities, we create yarns that aren’t available for purchase as ready-made skeins. It’s like a recipe in which the individual ingredients blend together perfectly to create something entirely new. So when we combine different yarns while knitting, a fascinating synergy emerges from the properties of the individual natural fibers.
Each design is precisely tailored to these innovative material blends. In our knitting kits, we’ve already put together coordinating yarn combinations for you, so you can focus entirely on the creative process of knitting and watching your unique work of art take shape.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions About Our Knitting and Crochet Patterns
Since we work closely with international designers, almost all patterns are available in English or in multiple languages. The available languages are always listed as flags right next to the design.
That depends entirely on the design you choose. After your purchase, you’ll receive our own ITO designs as a digital download (PDF) via email, so you can get started right away on your tablet or smartphone. For patterns by external designers, our selection menu will take you directly to Ravelry via a link, where you can purchase the pattern digitally.
Of course! Our fine Japanese yarns are incredibly versatile. If you’ve set your sights on one of our yarns, you can use it for any design you like. Just be sure to check the gauge and yardage specified in your pattern. The beauty of ITO is that you can create your very own textures by combining different strands.
You generally won’t find free patterns here, and that’s out of deep respect. Behind every professional knitting and crochet design lie months of hard work. From the initial creative sketch to the complex mathematical calculations for different sizes, all the way through to test knitting and writing. Since many of the designs on our site are created by independent designers, your purchase supports them.
