Wittmoor by Jana Huck
The kite-shaped Wittmoor shawl is a celebration of contrasts: graphic sets of long and short stripes are offset against each other, while delicate stocking stitch sections of lace weight yarn form a backdrop to tripled fingering weight garter stripes worked using the Navajo technique. The soft lace weight mohair yarn, ITO Sensai, forms the body of the shawl, while the fingering weight yarn, ITO Rakuda, forms the striking bulky garter stripes. The Navajo knitting in the garter stripes adds a touch of challenge to an otherwise relaxing knit — but this is approachable enough. The photo tutorial will guide you through the technique step-by-step. For your convenience, the garter stripes start and end as fringes, eliminating the need to weave in
their tails and creating a playful, rustic touch.
